My note to yahoo, upon finding my guru@yahoo.com account deactivated:

Hello,

I tried to sign in to Yahoo! groups today and it says my account has been deactivated. I looked through the TOS and I’m not aware of any violations I
might have made. Perhaps you could clarify, or maybe you’re mistaken? I use
the account only occasionally for Yahoo groups and to book airline tickets.

By the way, I did have e-mail going for a while, but I got hundreds of spams,
lots of “Return to sender” messages, and lots of personal messages intended for someone else. So I stopped using mail a while ago. I think I got so many messages because my Yahoo ID is so simple.

Thanks for your help!

Carl Tashian

Hello,

Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Games.

Your Yahoo! account was disabled pursuant to the Yahoo! Terms of Service
(TOS). The Yahoo! TOS can be found for your review at:

Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Customer Care.

My second reply:

Hello,

Thank you for writing to Carl Tashian.

I noticed my response came from Yahoo! Games. Did this violation have something to do with Yahoo Games? I haven’t ever used Yahoo Games, so I can’t see how I might have violated any Terms of Service. Perhaps you could clarify what happened? I can imagine that you might be confusing me with someone else. As I said before, I only ever use one Yahoo Group and Yahoo Travel. But I would like to have my account back, because people know me by my Yahoo username.

Thank you again for contacting Carl Tashian.

Carl Tashian

Yahoo is fucked. I gave up on Yahoo a long time ago. They have no interest in anything but improving their stock price at this point. They may have been the benevolent organizers of the internet at one point, but those days are long gone. I drew the line when they kept resetting my privacy options every time they modified their privacy terms. They have no interest in making users happy, only in squeezing out whatever money they can to satisfy investors. I predict Google will eventually succumb to the same fate.

My account was spontaneously deleted as well.
Call (408) 349-3300

Amazingly enough, I got a live person on the phone almost immediately, and she was very polite and helpful. I got a case number for my inquiry as to why my account was deleted, and the security department is supposed to get back to me withhin 72 hours via alternate email.

So we’ll see what happens. I had an unexpectedly positive phone experience, so I am holding that this will have a positive outcome.

This is a follow-up to my previous post.
As of this evening, my yahoo account that was manually deactivated by yahoo for a mystery violation of the terms of service has been fully restored with all information.

So I cannot send out bad vibes to yahoo.

If this happens to you, call them and be nice and friendly. Hold in your mind a favourable outcome, and it will happen.
Peace Be,
J

J, what phone # did you call where they would help you? I called some toll number that I found on the Yahoo site and it said that if you were calling about paid services that they do not offer phone tech support, only online. My account has been spontaneously deactivated, but I REALLY need to get my access back. Help!

I’ve had 2 Yahoo email accounts deactivated in a years time for no reason. I can’t understand why it happened or why they are so unreachable. What gives? I’ll never go back but this is driving me crazy.

On a Friday evening, Yahoo deactivated my longstanding PAID SUBSCRIPTION account, for completely unknown reasons, without warning or explanation. I re-read their terms of service, and the only thing I could see that remotely resembled anything I had done was that I had used a spam blocker, a third party server, to BLOCK spam, not SEND spam. This third-party server (www.0spam.com) advertised itself as being compatible with Yahoo. The only other thing that could have happened is perhaps someone spoofed my e-mail address in order to send spam. Since there is no one available over the weekend to help, I have spent my entire weekend reconstructing my business contacts, my calendar, and my mailing list subscriptions so that I can function with my local ISP e-mail address.

Unfortunately, there is much data in my Yahoo briefcase, calendar, and address book that I cannot access, and neither can I access my Geocities websites. Using Yahoo e-mail for business accounts is not dependable and I urge everyone who does so to BEWARE.

I have been using Yahoo as my principal address for genealogy and to store contacts and priceless information that is not recoverable. What a mistake.

I did a Google search on the internet and discovered that some who had this happen to them actually had all their information deleted.

I tried to call the number that was posted here on this website, and it was a working number, but there was no live person that will be available to help me until Monday morning. I cannot wait that long to know, and it is just too risky to use Yahoo for business purposes any longer.
