A question: Does your employer send you to conferences as part of your job? From Sundance to SXSW to , every job has its conferences. How do you find out about them (aside from the bigger ones), and how do you know which conferences live up to the hype? Employers will send you to a conference that relates to your job, but it’s up to you to find and attend conferences that further your own interests outside of that.
How do you find out about them?

i’m a sociologist/demographer and i belong to the american sociological association as well as the population association of america, and they post conferences, workshops, etc. in newletters and on their websites.
if you look into trade newletters and/or their websites you’ll most likely find out where the conferences are (sometimes with descriptions).
tip: the smaller “podunk” ones tend to be better in quality because of the attention lavished on you and the lower threshold for feather-preening and ego-stroking.
good luck conference crashing!
