Well, here it is, around day 13-14. It hasn’t made as much progress as it’s supposed to, and I don’t know what those huge bubbles on the surface are, but it doesn’t look moldy in the traditional sense. So I guess that is OK?

Still haven’t tasted it. Sent this photo to the herbalist from whom I bought the starter culture. Awaiting expert opinion.

How did you Kombucha turn out? Are you still making it? My first batch should be done any day now. It looks very similar to your photo.

Hello. I found this image of your kombucha while searching on google…I’m trying to determine whether my kombucha, which looks a lot like yours does in the above photo, is healthy. What did your herbalist say?
Thanks!

Yes, it turned out well! This is definitely a healthy kombucha. The white bits are new Kombucha growth, which is a great sign. The dark brown area is the original mushroom. When my Kombucha eventually went bad a few batches later (because I mistreated it), it stopped growing the obviously good-looking stuff. So if you don’t see active new growth for a few days, that’s a sign that something might be going wrong.
