De-regulation Rant
The conservative stance is frequently one of “de-regulation”, one which reduces the roll of “Big Government”. This is especially true when the role of “Big Government” is to police the activities of “Big Corporations”.
“Let’s let the States decide.”, they say, which translates to: “I don’t think we should spend federal money on this issue.” This de-regulation process frequently involves cutting funding for social health and welfare organizations, and rolling back environmental protection laws that have been in place since the Roosevelt administration. There are definite links between environmental pollution, and a host of debilitating and fatal diseases like Cancer and Leukemia (what was that movie with Julia Roberts?…oh yes…Erin Brokavich)
So my question is this:
If the conservatives and Republicans wish to de-regulate the environmental laws which protect the American people from harmful chemical pollution, why do they seek to clamp down on stem-cell research, which could potentially protect people from the dangers they are about to be exposed to !!!!
This makes no sense to me…
If you’re going to take away the very regulations that protect Americans’ health and safety, then make it impossible for Scientists to offer solutions to the emerging health problems, it seems like a double-edged sword.
Isn’t the role of our elected and PAID public officials to look out for the best interest of the people…
That’s like paying a burglar to come to your house and rob you.
It stings twice.
