Arrived in Barcelona to perform at the Primavera Music Festival! There are a lot of good performers, among them Sonic Youth as well as Tortoise and Ron Sexsmith. But I have been so happy because they play the French Open on EuroSport practically 24 hrs. a day! That means I don’t miss any of the games! We played on the Spanish version of the David Letterman show today, a very popular TV show called Buenafuente! There was no people in the audience to play to, we had to just play the song, then they will pipe it in later. Everybody at the show was very friendly, but Josh and I noticed that the TV made us both look short and fat! I wore sunglasses and a biege seerscuker suit. I still looked like a pudgy guitar playing dwarf. I think this may have been because of the widescreen effect. Anyhow, it was unsetling. I will try to post more pictures soon. Hags said he bumped into Iggy Pop going to the gym (!) with no shirt on! Ha Ha!! I want to get in shape, the more TV I have to do, it makes you realize you have to develop an image. sigh.

The Bees just spent an action packed 2 days in the Sound Emporium. We recorded 13 basic tracks (!)
Zack Dycus was our engineer, and as usual, keyboardist Jason Lehning was producing. We will have to wait until June to do the final overdubs, but we have a good foundation. I find myself slightly elated, definitely exausted, and partially incredulous! The sound emporium is a great sounding room with a lovely 9ft Chickering grand piano, and supposedly REM recorded “Document” there. Dave Yonkman was also there making a documentary about the bees which is very exciting, but it took a little getting used to (having the camera on you while recording) I kept thinking “I look fat from that angle” or “don’t shoot my bald spot please!”
I hope it comes out making me look attractive, both aurally and visually. Dave is a consumate proffesional, and I trust him implicitly. We met him through Guster, who also did their record there.
We spent a lot of time watching stupid videos on the internet including “The Grape Fall” which I think is hilarious but I know i’m going to hell for thinking that!
