Vacation/House sitting. Played a few GP gigs. One of the best ones, I though, was last night at The Wildhorse. Brandy Davenport came backstage with her sister Amber, and gave me and Jeff Boswell B-12 shots. I didn’t feel it. Went to El Mariachi and had some food and watched the Titans and went back to Hopkins, then my gran wanted to go to dinner, so we went to Shintomi and had Japanese. “Wait. I want to look at the fish.” She said as we were leaving, and she spent a long time in front of the aquarium. Home and we watched “The Prestige” and she was riveted, then at the end, she said “Ghastly!” Ha ha! That’s what she said about “Outkast” when Andre was on Terry Gross. “Ladies! Now Ladies!” Bed early, but all the fire alarms started going off in the middle of the night, and I don’t know if you’ve ever woken up like that, but it’s hard to go back to sleep after that. No fire, just the heat coming on for the 1st time this fall. Dogs disturbed.

Guilty played at the Green Building society’s fundraiser event at City Hall. Sound-checked, and went back to Ru-Sahn’s. Still Okay. A very young crowd in there. I saw several attractive women with 15 year-old-boy looking rock-guys. It’s always packed. I’ve never seen anyone I know in there, either. Who are these people? I had a couple Red Bulls, so I was sort of Hyper onstage. God, those poor people. They had to endure like 4 hours of lectures. Who wants that? This was supposed to be a party! They needed an event planner bad. But the gig went well, then Tommy and I went to Ombi, and he was getting hit on like crazy by these women, and they don’t know he’s gay. I mean, he gets hit hit on all the time! This one woman practically knocked me over to talk to him. I talked to a woman who looked like Cate Blanchett, and she said she was a wine and liquor wholesaler. And when I asked who she sold to, she said: “Who don’t we sell to?” She gave me an un-wearable black t-shirt to promote bourbon. Home about 2

Jason Lehning and I worked in the AM for a while, and we got a couple cool changes going, but we didn’t nail anything down. Home, and cleaned the house a bit, and got ice and set up stuff for the party. We had a pumpkin-carving party, and I guess about 100 people came? It was lots of fun, and people were outside on the deck carving pumpkins, and inside talking, and I talked to Whitney and Ann alot. Who else came? Henry and Marilyn Gross. Steve Allen and his wife,  there were lots of people. Lij and Joy and Serea. Renne French came, and some people said they’d come but didn’t make it, but it was a pretty big party. I was cracking myself up, and got kind of drunk, but only beer. No liquor. That’s when things get silly, when there’s liquor, so that’s my new thing. Only beer. Except beer’s fattening. I probably put on 5 pounds at the party. I awarded prizes for the pumpkins, and they were silly. Rachel won Best Pumpkin, for a bunny riding a surf-board. The party kept going until about 2. Went to bed.

Thursday October 18 2007

Went to Liz’s school and did Dream Analysis. It was sort of fun. About 10 kids at Ensworth High School. In her Survey class. But if I did it again, I would let them analyze their own dreams. That was the only thing. They love Liz, though. Cause her energy is so zany. They can identify with it. All the girls really look up to her. We went to Sam’s club to get some stuff for our party. We were astonished because they had no cheese pizzas, which was the main thing we wanted, but we got spinach dip, and some other stuff…beer. To Bill’s house for a minute, then Wild Oats with Liz for lunch, and I had the sushi. Okay. Home, and spent the afternoon tidying, emailing, organizing, etc. I cleaned my bathroom, washed towels. I felt so much better after having a day off, sort of.

Wednesday October 17 2007

This was the day of Jessica’s showcase, so to the Rutledge at 3ish. Frank Sass was playing a record of a band he likes: “Hard-Fi”. He said he likes stuff that sounds like the Clash. Same attitude, formula etc. We ran a few things, then went to the Mexican place next door. I had some food and a beer. Back to the club and the showcase went well. I played a perfect gig. No wrong notes. I’m sure that happens to Michael Rhodes all the time, but that was good for me. Then Amy Loftus played, and she had Steve Bowman on the drums, and Lij Shaw on Bass, and Joy on BGV’s. Renee French showed up and she sat with me and we watched Amy’s set. They played a really cool song she wrote with Will Kimbrough called “America”, and the bass line was cool. Was going to go to Thad’s gig, but after loading out all my gear it was time to pick up Posh.
