Wednesday December 5 2007

Worked on S.S. material, had lunch with Layng at Frothy Monkey. Went to K-Karl’s dinner party and it was fun. We had some lovely Chilean wine and we were also celebrating my dad’s 18th anniversary of being sober. He really is a lovely guy. I love my family, I really do. To the basement and Carl and Karl came and Caroline Hagan and Charlotte Avant. Also Andrea and Renee French. I had a glass of wine but it wasn’t very good, so I got some tequila, and had one shot right before going on stage. The crowd was very kind and receptive, and I had one good joke: “What do you guys think? Jacket on? or Jacket off?” (Laughing) I thought that was pretty clever. Watched Carey Ott’s set and they were very good. He has a good new band. Also, Angel Snow was very intriguing. She has a style that’s truly original. I like her voice a lot. Very impressive. We’re supposed to write. I was showing Matt Maher that short film by Wes Anderson where Natalie Portman takes her clothes off: Hotel Chevalier. He was very impressed. Talked to Bobby Bare for a while. I kind of think I might be warming up to him. He has a brilliant way of strategizing. I guess he’s producing a record for the Decemberists. Home about 12 and Brad Jones sent a kind email about the show.

  1. Daniel:

I really enjoyed The Basement show as the new songs sound very promising. Keep ‘em coming. You guys are simply the best pop band working today. As Nick Lowe said “pure pop for now people “
