Monday February 16 2009

Well we wrapped up a 4 day stretch of mixing with Mr. Jones at Alex the Great. Everybody very pleased with the outcome, but bittersweet that because of prior commitments, we won’t be able to re-convene until late April. But, as Shakesp. sez: “There is a tide in the affairs of men!” so, Lillie came home from her trip all starry-eyed and goddess-like and she cooked me a fantastic gourmet meal, and then we were sitting there drinking wine and sort of gazing into the candlelight, and I said “Hang on a sec” and caught up in the moment as I was, went into her study and dug around in her jewelry box until my hand landed on a ring, and then quickly returned with this funny giant plastic ring and, before the bravery evaporated, I said: “Please forgive the lameness of this approach and the ring and everything, but will you marry me Lillian?” to which she responded: “Are you serious?” and I said that yes, I was serious, and then she said yes! Somewhat stunned by what had transpired, we looked at each other, and sort of were like “Is this really happening?” and it was, and I’m convinced that there is no woman more divine than she!  I don’t always have bright ideas, but the more I reflect, the more I’m convinced, this was one of my better ones.

Friday February 13 2009

Well I haven’t really felt like blogging lately, but since it’s Friday, I better ramp it up. The Silver Seas have been working hard on our new record, “Chateau Revenge” for the last few weeks. It’s coming along beautifully. Brad Jones is onboard with us now, taking us into uncharted waters, but he’s an old sea-dog. He really helped me with the vocals, you know, reminding me that they are the most important thing in the mix, really making them show properly. We had Chris Carmicheal come do some strings, and they sound really excellent. We also had Caitlin Evanson come and that was really cool. She played some amazing Indian strings on “Help is On The Way”. So, you know, a little bit at a time. We saw Jack White again 2 days in a row, once at Baja Burrito and once at Marche.  He’s an interesting guy. Interesting looking. I’m really anxious to start focusing on other things, beside this record, but you know how it is, there are only so many hours in the day. But I would like to do more interviews, read more books, write more, play my piano. Get going to the Y again, that wouldn’t hurt either. It’s like i’m still kind of in shape, but if I wait much longer to go back, it could be weird. I have to find my ipod shuffle. Jessica Maros is having a sort of Fashion show/ Art opening tonight. I told her I would compose some music for it, and I did it all on the iphone. “Beatmaker” software is pretty cool. But the more time I devote to “Chateau”, the better it will sound. So anyway, things are what they are.
