Well it’s New Years Eve Eve. I woke up to the sound of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and man, that’s some impressive music. David Bowie does a great job of stepping up to the vocal mic and giving it all. Last night my brother and I spruced up The Silver Seas Myspace and website. Felt good to get that somewhat refurbished. L and I watched the end of Julie and Julia last night and Meryl Streep. Damn she’s good.

Well last night we went to Jay and Leann’s and had chilli. I had 4 bowls. Aunt Donna and Uncle Russell and Elliot and Betsy and Ivan were there. Also Murray and Carol and Don Murray and Clint so there were lots of people. It was kind of like a late Christmas dinner. Then we watched the football game and I fell asleep. Then L. and I went to the basement for Grimey’s birthday party, and the game was on there too, and I was watching the game and my stomach was not stoked that I had eaten so much Chilli. Saw Mindy and also Langford Barksdale. Jen and Mark Deaderick were there, and John. Who else? I saw Dean Shortland driving away. So we had fun and I drank some sort of birthday shot and it tasted like limeade. Home and L. and I watched the overtime portion of the football game and it was entertaining. So Beston came by last night. We listened to some music then went round to my folks and jammed with them. I played “If I should fall from grace…” and my mom sang: “Let me go boys!” and it was cute. Then I asked my dad if I could get his banjo out and he said “I don’t even know where it is!” I found it and played for about a half hour and that was enough to get me addicted and now I want to play the damn thing. Then we went to Liz and David’s and I took some black eye peas. We had dinner and Megan and Emily White were there. Then let’s see….oh yes! We went to Sherlock Holmes! Of course I thought it was fantastic and Robert Downey is always great. I just think he’s one of the best actors working today. And Jude Law was a good straight man, as Watson. It’s hard to be a good straight man. Especially when you’re as good as Law, but the thing is, you can’t compete with Downey, with the way he can make his eyes go all wide like Peter Sellers…So that was a treat. Lillie was impressed, “The thing that impressed me was how dirty everything was.” she said “You see these movies where it’s the 18th century and everything is all clean and shiny…”

Well it was a lovely christmas and we got all kinds of loot. We traipsed all over town and had christmas with all the families and did well. Then watched the Titans get their hat handed and made candied orange peels. Carl came over and we listened to some Pogues. I was remembering a conversation I had with Shane McGowan when I was 19, and he said his wife wanted white walls. He said he couldn’t stand his apartment in London because the walls were white. I had about a 15 minute conversation with him. I had no idea about the extent of their music, I just stumbled on him in the hotel bar in dublin. Now I realize what an incredible writer the man truly is. Listening to “Fairytale of New York” and realizing it’s basically the best song ever written, featuring probably 2 of the best vocal performances ever recorded. Kirsty MacColl and Shane MacGowan. So there it is. It’s really true sometimes that you can’t fully appreciate and understand things that are happening to you at the time they are happening. The man is a lion. Hero. Brushed shoulders with a few. Makes a man feel good to brush shoulders with heros. Just a slight brush. Hope something rubbed off….. Probably didn’t, but I can hope. Merry Christmas!

Well we braved the masses and got some good loot yesterday. So Christmas is at our throats again as Jeanne would say. Watched part of Julie and Julia last night. Gosh Meryl Streep is good. The other girl is alright. So all I need now is something for L. and I think I know what might be just the ticket: An Ensemble apogee mic pre! She’ll love it! So. This has been an excellent year. 2010 holds many exciting avenues to unfold. Tonight we go to my parents for Beouf Burgogne. I have been craving some grass-fed local beef lately. I also want to see Pirate Radio and I want to listen to some good music. Been working on a short promo video of the Silver Seas. I am funny on Camera, mainly when i’m not trying to be. My teeth are smaller and crooked-er than I thought. Merry Christmas to all 5 of you, wherever you may be! Here’s Julia’s

Well it’s almost Christmas…time to spring into action and get the shopping going. I guess we’ll go to the mall. I would love to have something really unique and heartfelt, but maybe i’ll get the same thing for everyone…I like Christmas. Watched Mad Men last night and we both felt kind of disturbed by it. But there are definitely some good lines. Jose Gonzalez is wonderful. Tea this morning was cold. I don’t know what I did wrong. Carl made scones yesterday. Fantastic one-upmanship going on in the baking world. Working on some SIlver Seas songs and we played a new one called “Nightmarch” on Monday night. Kind of feeling optimistic about 2010. Ready for a new decade and some new ideas to emerge. Alright.

Was given the sad news last night that Chris Feinstein had passed away. My heart goes out to his family and friends, and all those who crossed paths with the wonderful and funny guy that Chris was. Truly a great musician and lovely human being. He will be sorely missed.

Well I spent the weekend in Montclair New Jersey. I was working on some new songs with my friend Warren Zanes. Lillie went to Boston to go to some Museums and do a bit of research. Warren and I set up a studio in his dining room and wrote a few songs. I played drums and he played guitar and we threw some ideas down. Very sort of “off the cuff” stuff, but some of it (a lot actually) was quite successful we both thought. Then my flight home tonight got cancelled due to “rain and reduced visibility” at the airport, so we went to a movie and chinese dinner. The movie was quite good – “Everybody’s Fine” with Bob DeNiro. Then to vegetarian chinese dinner. Fried tofu. Far from healthy, but yummy on a cold and rainy night. Then I played Warren a few country songs on Youtube, like “White Liar” and “A little Too Late” by Toby Keith. Then I got sort of obsessed with Collings guitars because Warren has one, and I’m pretty sure it’s the best acoustic guitar I’ve ever played. OM-2H model. I think I will write a letter to Bill Collings and see if they will sell me one at some sort of artist price. Anyway it’s probably still sort of out of my price range. Then listening to “Truelove’s Gutter” on Rhapsody by Richard Hawley and I could just listen to it over and over it’s so f-ing fantastic. It’s like one long dream or something. I’m amazed. So magical. He’s a wonderful artist and very dear to me. Not tired, really, but should go to bed.
