Top Ten Feng Shui Tips for Realtors
By Holly Tashian
Feng Shui is the art and science of placement to create harmony in
the environment. Over the last ten years the popularity of Feng Shui
has skyrocketed. There is a great need for people in the realty
business to understand the basic tenants of Feng Shui, and use these
principles to help sell houses and educate their clients in arranging
their homes attractively. Below are a list of important ways that
realtors can use Feng Shui to sell houses and help their clients avoid
buying properties with potential problems.
- Make the outside entrance entrancing, starting with the walkway
to the house, landscaping, and ease of entry. Clear away vines and
branches that get in the way of the path. If possible place live plants
on either side of the entrance as greeters.
- Create a welcoming first impression inside the door with artwork
or perhaps a fountain that acts as a greeter.
- Place major seating (couches, desks, beds) facing the door
whenever possible.
- Depersonalize and declutter the entire house, especially the
kitchen, the closets, and the garage. Have the client pack five of
their most treasured possessions as a gesture of their intent to move
out. Make sure the artwork throughout the house is friendly and
positive in nature.
- Unblock stairways and hallways to allow a beneficial ch'i flow
to circulate in all rooms (use crystals if needed for sluggish areas,
or corridors where the energy if flowing too fast)
- Create a beautiful view from the most important windows, and
clean all windows, doorknobs, woodwork and walls.
- Bring in vital energy with live plants, mirrors, lighting and
water features such as fountains or fish tanks. Replace silk
plants with live plants, and remove all dried plants to bring in fresh,
moving energy.
- Soften any "poison arrows" pointing at people (sharp corners,
walls that jut out) with plants draped over the corners, or lighting to
fill in corners.
- Create a "line between heaven and earth" where there are high
ceilings using artwork, borders, curtains, etc. to make the room feel
as though there is a ceiling at regular height.
- Outside the house use landscaping (hedges, trees, fences, stone
walls) to help deflect energy flowing toward houses at the end of
t-junctions, cul de sacs or along fast moving roads.
